Shiv Sena UBT Crisis Live Updates:
Shiv Sena (UBT) chief Uddhav Thackeray is facing a fresh political challenge as six of his party’s nine Lok Sabha MPs are likely to join the Eknath Shinde-led Shiv Sena on Monday. The rebel MPs are expected to hold a press conference at around 3:30 pm, where they are likely to announce their decision.
This could give the rebel bloc the two-thirds strength required under the anti-defection law and help them avoid disqualification. Meanwhile, Shiv Sena (UBT) has called a meeting of all its MLAs and MLCs at 2.30 pm at Shivalay in Mumbai’s Nariman Point on the first day of the Maharashtra Legislature’s monsoon session. The meeting is seen as an attempt by Thackeray to prevent further defections and reassure party legislators.
Two dissident MPs, Nagesh Patil Ashtikar and Omprakash Raje Nimbalkar, have already confirmed their decision to switch sides, while leaders from the ruling Mahayuti alliance have hinted that more political developments could follow.
